Par Avion - The boardgame

: Build your own gameplan

“Par Avion” has the same problem like most games with real maps: After some time you will have played all maps. This is especially true for “Par Avion”, because up to now only two maps exists (the Midwest of the USA and southern France).

So if you are in the mood for tinkering take a look at the download page of “Par Avion”. There you will find a blank map. Properly coated with plastic you can use board markers to draw your own map on it. After you are done playing you can erase your map and draw a new one.

There is also a set of tiles (forests, seas, mountains, etc.) to be found on the download page. I do not know the best way to attach them to your blank game plan, but I think you will have some ideas. After you solved this problem, you will have a unlimited number of options to build you own maps for “Par Avion”.

: Southern France is ready to be flown over

I finally managed to complete the map of southern France, parts of Spain and a lot of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a hommage to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and his famous adventures, flying from Toulouse to northern Africa.

I hope you like the new terrain feature “mountains” (which are only used as symbols on this map, do not try to navigate by this game plan). Landing on Corsica or Mallorca can be quite difficult in the middle of a storm, with lots of mountains looming right next to the unforgiving sea.

You will find the game plan in the download section of “Par Avion”.

: “Par Avion” rules available as eBook

Because it is dead simple, I converted the rules of “Par Avion” to an eBook-format. I choose ePub, for most eBook readers are able to open this file type.

Unfortunately, the Amazon Kindle does not open ePub files. But there is a little tool called “Calibre” which will convert the ePub to something readable on your Kindle.

So head over to the download section of “Par Avion” and grab your digital copy of the “Par Avion” rules.

: Generating eBooks with OpenOffice / LibreOffice

Because the rules for “Par Avion” were done in LibreOffice, it was only logical to generate the eBook version of these rules right out of LibreOffice.

Luca Calcinai built a small extension for LibreOffice / OpenOffice called “Writer2ePub”. It does what its name implies and converts OpenOffice documents into ePub ebooks by a simple click.

If you use paragraph styles in LibreOffice / OpenOffice like “Heading 1” or “Heading 2” this extension even generates a useful Table of Contents (ToC) for your book. You just have to add some metadata, and your ebook is ready for publishing.
